PVW Photography Club
Our Mission: Art Through Photography

Four years ago a group of residents got together to form the PVW Photography Club. We chose “Photography” rather “Camera” in our club name because we wanted to include residents that may not have experience with more sophisticated equipment or having technological expertise. Our mission was to place emphasis on photo subject matter and initially less on technology. However, we hoped that with assistance from more experienced photographers in the group and with time we would all improve our skills, possibly invest in advanced equipment (maybe not) and develop some expertise with software tools.

Well, we all are aware that artists strive to express their emotions, impressions and visions with paint, brushes and canvas. However, photographers try to capture an instant in time; a view of things as they are at that moment and will never be the same. But what the camera records is not always what the photographer anticipated.  So knowledgeable photographers often enhance their photos using software; changing what the camera’s eye saw to what the photographer preferred it saw.  In fact, some may go so far as to change the photo to something from their imagination rather than reality.  Anyway, isn’t all of this “Art”?

The fact is we are all amateurs with little chance of having the greater public view our work.  But PVW residents and guests have an opportunity to see examples of our efforts. We will continue to post photos in our Club House Lobby and from time to time in The View from Paradise.

OK. With the photographic hyperbole out of the way, the real purpose of our club is to have some fun. Getting up in the morning (well, not too early) to catch the early sun on our field trips, enjoying the many wonderful sites that South Florida has to offer and as a group getting together for lunch makes for an exhilarating day. For any of you non-member photo enthusiasts looking to broaden your PVW experience please join us even if your camera is your cell phone.
