Citizen Observer Patrol
The Citizen Observer Patrol Needs You!
The Citizen Observer Patrol (COP) is a volunteer unit of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and is the largest program of its kind in the United States. Volunteers wear distinctive uniforms and drive specially marked vehicles, provided by the Sheriffs Office, that proudly display to any potential criminal that they are the eyes and ears of law enforcement within the community. The Citizen Observer Patrol program has emerged as a most effective approach to residential safety, awareness and involvement. By its visibility, the COP serves as a strong deterrent against unlawful actions of potential criminals. Considerable credit for the reduction of crime rates is attributed to our presence in the community and on the streets of participating neighborhoods.
If, as a homeowner in Ponte Vecchio West, you are concerned with the continued protection and safety of our community, you are strongly urged to consider joining the Citizen Observer Patrol. The initial training, provided by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, consists of 12 classroom hours and 12 hours in the field with a trainer from the Field Training Unit. After this is completed, all we ask is a commitment to drive a minimum of one shift per week and attend a one hour unit training meeting each month (every third Thursday at 10:00 A.M). If you are interested, or wish additional information, please contact Harold Goldstein, Unit Captain or Bob De Jong, Unit Lieutenant at cop.pvw@pvwonline.com
